Do you have the Wanderlust Gene?

The "wanderlust gene," or DRD4-7R, is a genetic variant linked to heightened novelty-seeking behavior, risk-taking, and a love for adventure, found in roughly 20% of the population.

The DRD4 gene codes for a dopamine receptor, which plays a role in regulating dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure and reward. The 7R variant of this gene is linked to a lower sensitivity to dopamine, meaning individuals with this variant may need more intense experiences to feel the same level of pleasure.

People with the DRD4-7R variant are often described as restless, curious, and drawn to new experiences, including travel, exploring, and trying new things. This is because they may seek out bigger, braver, and adventurous experiences to get a dopamine rush.

Studies suggest that individuals with the 7R variant are more likely to take risks, explore new places, ideas, foods, and relationships, and generally embrace movement, change, and adventure.
